Recovering ancient human DNA in archaeological sediments from Stone Age Mongolia

Although ancient mammalian DNA has been found in sediments collected from archaeological sites across present-day Mongolia, ancient human DNA has been rather elusive.

Working under Dr. Boyle, our project focuses on searching for and recovering this ancient human DNA from promising sites. Attempting to maximize retrieval success, we are processing multiple subsamples from an encouraging sediment location. From this DNA, we hope to better understand the occupational history of these Mongolian sites and glean insight into the activity of archaic human groups in Eastern Eurasia.

Diyendo Massilani

I enjoy spending time outside, whether that be hiking trails with my family, playing tennis with friends, or biking early in the morning. I also love a good sitcom or mystery movie, as binge-watching is proudly one of my strongest skills. Other passions of mine include walking my dog, eating almost anything, and spending time with family and friends in the Princeton area.
